Nintendo’s next console may not launch until 2025, new rumors suggest. Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe (via VGC) made this claim on the OX do Controle podcast after interviewing five different sources, all of whom claimed that the hybrid console’s successor would launch in 2025.
Nobody wants to hear this, but this one is pretty intense.
After consulting 5 sources from 3 different continents, all echoing basically the same thing, OX do Controle today reveals: the launch of the Switch’s successor should only happen in 2025.

After Lippe’s tweet, several other sources seem to confirm this statement. VGC’s Andy Robinson has also heard of a 2025 date for the Switch 2, and two developers have confirmed to VGC that they are working on Switch 2 games for release in early 2025. They couldn’t confirm if this means the console will launch at the same time as the games. Eurogamer is another source that claims to have heard “similar rumors of an early launch in 2025 from industry circles” this week, although it was also unable to confirm these.
Of course, we won’t know anything until Nintendo announces the Switch 2 itself. And at this rate, that could happen at any time. Some rumors point to a March 2024 reveal, but whether that’s true remains to be seen. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa dodged questions about the next console, stating during a conference call following the company’s Q3 financial report that the Switch remains its “main business,” reiterating that Nintendo is always working on new hardware/software researches.
