NVIDIA is now involved in a lawsuit involving its Artificial Intelligence technology. Three authors accuse the company of violating copyright with its generative AI platform.
All because, allegedly, NVIDIA used, without authorization, books protected by copyright to teach the NeMo platform.
Process refers to almost 200 thousand books

Authors Brian Keene, Abdi Nazemian and Stewart O'Nan say their work is included in a dataset of nearly 200,000 books that NVIDIA used to train its NeMo platform. This is the basic accusation of the legal case now being filed in the USA against the company.
This class action seeks to obtain unspecified damages for all authors in the US whose copyrighted works have been used to train large language models included in the NeMo platform over the past three years.
Among the works cited in this process are the 2008 novel Ghost Walk by Brian Keene, Like a Love Story by Abdi Nazemian published in 2019 and Last Night at the Lobster by Stewart O'Nan, a 2007 edition.
NVIDIA action seen as admission of guilt
Before being the target of this lawsuit, NVIDIA acted. In October 2023, it removed a set of data due to allegations of copyright infringement.
But even this action by NVIDIA is having consequences. The masterminds of this legal case see this action as an admission of guilt. On the other hand, this action was also unable to prevent NVIDIA from finding itself in trouble with the judicial system.
NVIDIA now joins the list of companies involved in AI platforms that have already been the target of similar accusations.
