Steam Deck The growing popularity of portable PCs and the influx of Linux operating system gamers has forced Epic Games to rethink its views on open platforms. According to a Q&A session on the company’s official Discord server, developers are already actively working on a native version of the Epic Games Launcher client for Linux, and its release should be “soon.”

A company representative emphasized that the studio does not intend to limit itself to simply transferring code, but is preparing comprehensive optimizations for the specific details of the free operating system. Perhaps we’re talking about distributing the client in a convenient Flatpak format for seamless operation on the Steam Deck, integrating with compatibility layers like Proton, and expanding support for Easy Anti-Cheat. Prior to this, the company’s head Tim Sweeney was very skeptical about the feasibility of supporting Linux, but the development of a new accelerated launcher engine and the rapid growth of the audience for alternative systems clearly pushed Epic Games to take active action.
