The current pre-order ratio heavily favors the Ultimate Edition. Market analysts gave more specific data for the first time.
As we all know, pre-orders for the action hit Grand Theft Auto VI are going well so far. It turns out that the Ultimate Edition is the most commonly ordered version of the game, ahead of the Standard Edition. Now, for the first time, the market analyst community is providing more reliable data on this front.
Market analysts at Sensor Tower, who have used surveys like this to get people’s attention in the past, are now reporting that about 89% of previous pre-orders for GTA 6 were actually for the $100 Ultimate Edition.
As a result, data shows that around 90% of buyers on Xbox picked up this version, compared to around 88.5% of previous buyers on PlayStation. This also reflects Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s statement that consumers are increasingly opting for premium versions of games.
Karl Kontus, senior vice president and general manager of video game insights at Sensor Tower, emphasized in an interview Game Industry Network However, he expects this ratio to level off closer to launch: “Most of the marketing has not started yet, and most pre-orders will only be received in the last week before launch. I think the ratio will be closer to 50:50. However, the development of GTA VI is difficult to predict because the game is self-contained. There is no benchmark for how this game will develop going forward.”
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. On August 27, Netflix will provide comprehensive coverage of this upcoming hit action film.
