Xbox is expected to announce news about its backwards compatibility plans this year. Players expect that at the show celebrating the 25th anniversary of the brand, Microsoft will announce new projects for Xbox and Xbox 360, which will start working on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S due to compatibility. Fan sites have been voting on which games should be added to the backwards compatibility program for months, and The Simpsons Hit & Run has been the undisputed frontrunner since the original Xbox.
Interestingly, at Disney’s D23 exhibition, The Simpsons creator Matt Groening hinted that The Simpsons: Hit and Run will return in some form. A viewer asked the creators of the hit series about a possible continuation of Hit & Run, and showrunner Matt Selman, who worked on the original game, responded that a second project “Definitely would be a great gift”. Groening then added:
I don’t know if I say too much [но] I think the original game will return in some form.
Matt Groening’s announcement has fueled speculation that The Simpsons: Fight & Flight could be backwards compatible on Xbox this year. Some players believe we might be talking about a larger return to the project, such as a remake or remaster for modern platforms.
The original The Simpsons: Fight & Flight was released in 2003 on Xbox, Playstation 2, PC and GameCube.
