An all-snow transformation in Bethesda Game Studios’ role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been a fan’s pipe dream for the past 15 years, but one enterprising modder is preparing to finally make it a reality.

Let us remind you that Skyrim mods released since 2011 attempt to provide interactivity to the game’s snowy mountains to some extent, but the community believes that full transformation is impossible.
In fact, Skyrim’s geometry is almost entirely static, and interactive snow would reduce performance, if not break the game. “I’m not sure this is possible in principle”,— spoke Mod author KainDracula, 2023.
The other day, Swedish modder Josef Rudberg proved the impossible is possible – the enthusiast posted a couple of gameplay videos (see playlist below) showcasing the full snow transformation in Skyrim.
Unlike other mods, Rudberg’s project includes customizable snow terrain textures, 3D layers on the snow to make deformations look even, the ability to restore the shape of snow when it snows, and more.

Rudberg’s development is not yet ready for release (it is in beta testing) and there is no release date. At the time of release, the project will be compatible with popular graphics modifications community shader from doodlelum.
