IO Interactive’s 007 First Light, released earlier this year, has only been available on Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 in 30 FPS and 60 FPS | 5 Pro options from the start. On Xbox Series S, the project has a 30 FPS option. With a major update released this week, owners of current-generation Xbox consoles are getting the long-awaited 60 FPS mode.
Xbox Series S players in Dawn of Dawn can now choose between two modes:
- “Quality”. Upscaled 1080p resolution, real resolution from 720p to 1080p. The game runs at 30 FPS. Frame rate isn’t always stable; there’s a 3-5 FPS loss in dynamic action scenes.
- “Performance”. 1080p resolution upgraded from around 720p. The game strives for 60 frames per second, and often hits that number. On average, players get around 50-60 FPS in this mode; more severe frame drops rarely occur.
The main difference between quality and performance modes seems to be the RTGI global illumination technology, which is missing at 60fps.
