Amazon Games has officially confirmed the end of its strategy in the big-budget MMORPG space. As part of this process, global distribution rights for Thrones and Liberty will return to developer NC early, with maintenance of the games transitioning into the hands of creators in late 2026/early 2027.
As the terms of the contract changed, financial details of the original deal came to light: Amazon paid $70 million for the game’s distribution rights in the West, according to Korean media reports. Full fee is paid in advance and is non-refundable.
Key details of the transition:
- This decision comes as Amazon gradually withdraws from the large MMO field while refocusing on other areas (including Luna cloud services and AI projects).
- The transition will occur without loss of progress. Accounts, characters and in-game value across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox platforms will be retained, and games will be integrated into a global ecosystem alongside proprietary NC services purple.
- Transfer of full rights and direct control of servers in North America, South America, Europe and Japan should be completed by the end of 2026 to early 2027.
