Microsoft is preparing major changes to the Windows 11 contextual menu that should make it faster and more convenient. In the latest preview build, we’ve discovered new settings that let you independently decide which commands will be displayed.
Customization options will soon appear at the bottom of the menu and enter system settings. There, users will be able to enable or disable individual actions, including sending files, printing, creating shortcuts, copying paths, rotating images, and app extensions. You can also move cloud commands to a separate section and change the location of key actions.
The latest innovations are particularly interesting. By default, commands such as cut, copy, and paste are located in a horizontal row at the top of the menu. Those who wish will be able to return to the more familiar options in Windows 10, where these actions are placed vertically alongside other items. Moreover, after the update, many small commands will be deactivated by default – menus will immediately become more compact, and necessary functions can be added manually.
The classic Windows contextual menu does not disappear, although its items are not displayed by default. You can roll it back if you want, but you can’t make the old version major yet. Microsoft may officially announce the new settings in the next one to two weeks.
