Reddit management talked about new formats for presenting content on the platform: text publications can be converted into audio and video. As part of the experiment, some posts were converted into videos in which an AI-generated voice read the text of major publications and some comments; a note appeared below the video indicating that it was a real discussion voiced by AI.

Videos with AI voice commentary can now appear below the main message instead of the usual text label. Of course, there is still an opportunity to read the post in its original form; for those not accustomed to Internet forums, a presentation of it in video format may be more convenient. There may also be disadvantages to this format: the AI may select comments that are not the most important for the topic being discussed, or mispronounce certain words in the text.
The company disclosed in its latest financial report that “Reimagining the way users and communities interact, share and consume content through a modern video format on Reddit”. Company head Steve Huffman also hinted in conversations with investors that the platform will soon be able to listen to posts in the background — a new type of content, in his view, “Can be very exciting”.
Currently, the experiment format is only available on Reddit’s web version, and will soon appear in the Apple iOS and Google Android apps. The portal’s editors manually select posts and then convert them into videos. “This is an early, limited experiment to see how useful these formats are to people and how we can present them in a way that feels authentic to Reddit.”– a company representative told Source edge. Over time, the number of publications in the new format will increase.
