XBOX’s new round of layoffs includes leading experts from across the studios, and here are two notable examples:
- Just five days ago, Gears of War: E-Day’s head writer was elated that the shooter “went gold,” and now, two weeks before the game’s release, he’s taking to LinkedIn to look for a new job — as a director or writer for a game, movie, or series. How the studio will perform overall is anyone’s guess. Of course, the new “Gears of War” cost Xbox a lot of money, but it’s obviously too early to bury this plan now;
- Halo Studios was the most affected, not only being streamlined, but actually losing Halo itself. One of the victims was cinematographer Josh Daniels. Remarkably, he was promoted just this week. Now he’s also looking for a new place to live.
Colleagues expressed support for the pair while condemning Microsoft’s policies. Let’s remember that this time 268 people were evicted from Xbox, and it was also accompanied by a reorganization of studios including Critical Studios.
