Microsoft has begun investigating issues caused by the Windows 11 August 2026 update. It manifests itself as glitches when launching gaming applications on computers with updates installed.

After users complained about issues running games like Arc Raiders, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and The Finals on computers running Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, the software giant confirmed the issue. The game may freeze, close without warning, display an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error, and cause the system to reboot.
“Since the release of Windows Update (KB5121003) and later on August 11, 2026, Microsoft has received reports of an issue with games not functioning properly. We are currently investigating to determine whether this issue is caused by Microsoft. We will provide new information as soon as it becomes available.”,— point out And gamers are encouraged to submit crash reports.
As part of the August 2026 Patch Tuesday security update, Microsoft addressed 400 vulnerabilities, including one actively exploited vulnerability and two publicly disclosed zero-day vulnerabilities.
