Bethesda continues to not only add new content to Fallout 76, but also improve the game technically. It’s already starting to run natively on Xbox Series X | S in 2023 at 60 FPS (it was previously running at 60 FPS due to FPS Boost), and now they’ve announced the release date for a new update that will improve the game’s graphics on current-gen consoles, and will also benefit previous-gen consoles.
The technical update for Fallout 76 will be released on September 15th, coinciding with the release of The Slasher’s fall update. From what is known so far:
- On Xbox Series X, Playstation 5 Pro, and Xbox One X, the game will run in 4K format.
- On Playstation 5 and Playstation 4 Pro, players will get 1440p resolution.
- On Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 | 5 Pro claims a full 60 FPS. The game still runs at 60 frames per second on these platforms.
- Draw distance and shadow performance will be improved on current generation consoles.
- VRR technical support will be available on Xbox Series X S, PlayStation 5 | 5 Pro.
In the technical update announcement for Fallout 76, the developers noted that this is an important part of the game’s further development:
Accompanying these updates are our updates for 9th generation consoles, which will benefit players of Xbox Series X | S, Playstation 5 and older consoles. All console gamers will be able to enjoy improved performance, stability and graphics quality. This update also enables our team to optimize each platform individually in the future.
The Fallout 76 update itself is free for current-gen consoles.
