Streaming giant Netflix continues to make major changes to its gaming division. The company also announced the closure of two in-house game studios – California’s Night School Studio (best known for the mystery adventure game Oxenfree) and Finland’s Moon Wars Studio (which developed a life simulator but never managed to launch either project). The decision also affected full-time developers on the central team, who were laid off.
The news about the disbandment of Night School Studio is particularly unexpected, because just a month and a half ago, the team had just released the interactive horror film “Unhinged” with the participation of Hollywood stars. The service’s management even publicly praised the program’s high participation rates. However, following a management change in the gaming division and the arrival of Alain Taskan, the company finally corrected its course. Now, the top priorities for streaming will be children’s games, party casual games, TV streaming, and projects with broad reach. After a string of closures, the company is left with just one in-house studio, Next Games.
