In his new video dedicated to PlayStation’s failed strategy of developing games for the service, famed Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier shared details about the development and cancellation of Naughty Dog’s multiplayer game The Last of Us Online.
According to Schreier, the project started as a small addition to the sequel and grew into a massive standalone product that ultimately cost Sony hundreds of millions of dollars.
At the same time, development takes up a lot of resources: most of Naughty Dog’s staff have been working on online modes and remakes for years, which is why the studio didn’t release a new game in six years – until they shifted their efforts to new projects Interstellar: Prophet of Heresy After multiplayer is canceled in 2023.
