Starbreeze Studios has announced major changes to the content distribution model in cooperative first-person shooter PAYDAY 3. After the September update, all paid heists from previously released DLC will be available to all owners of the base version of the game. Future heists will also be free.
This change coincides with PAYDAY 3’s third anniversary. The developers want to unite the community so that game owners no longer have to check if their partners have certain add-ons before completing a heist together.
As of August 25, 2026, all paid DLC with loot content will be removed from the Digital Store, namely:
- syntax error
- boy in blue
- Houston Breakout
- fear and greed
- Party powder
- freight
- shopping spree
Bundles containing these expansions will also be discontinued, including the Year One Edition, Year One Pass, and Second Anniversary Bundle.
The developer will reward players who purchase at least one paid heist mission, which was removed from the store after the September update was released. They will receive a variant of the S40 “Partisan” pistol, which can be modified. For each heist, players also have access to unique themed masks. Owners of all 7 DLCs will also receive the Flame Keeper Mask.
It’s worth noting that all other paid add-ons will remain on sale for now. Changes do not affect weapon sets, clothing sets, or character sets.
The September update will also add a campaign mode with a completely rewritten story, weapon perks, shooting ranges, and enemy upgrades. Additionally, there will be a new paid Crime Bonds pack featuring weapons familiar to fans.
There’s another big change awaiting the competition in August. PAYDAY 3 will finally be ported to Unreal Engine 5, while Cook Off Heist will get a remaster.
