Unknown Worlds has released a major update, 1.2, for Subnautica 2 Early Access, focusing on improving the co-op mode. First of all, spatial audio voice chat (Proximity Chat) has been added to the game. The closer your partner is, the louder and clearer his voice will be, and the direction of the sound will correspond to his location. The words fade away as the distance increases.
The death system has also changed. After losing all health points, the character will now fall unconscious instead of dying. The time for teammates to pick up is limited. Therefore, a dangerous dive does not necessarily result in the player’s death if a partner manages to rescue him.
To coordinate without voice chat, we added an emotion system. Players can also directly open a friend’s inventory and transfer resources to them. Additionally, the developers have improved some elements of location markers, signals, and base construction.
Along with the release of the update, the developer also announced a $100,000 donation to The Ocean Cleanup, an organization dedicated to developing technology to eliminate plastic pollution from the world’s oceans.
“Abyssin began with a love for the ocean, and it’s important to us to continue the conservation work we started with the original game by donating to The Ocean Cleanup. We will continue to do everything we can to protect the oceans we work so hard on in our games,” said Fernando Melo, executive producer of Uncharted.
Submarine 2 is currently in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
