In August 2026, Russian users encountered problems when paying for goods and services online through foreign browsers such as Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Many companies have warned of massive failures, including Lamoda, Russian Railways Health Network and Xline provider.
The reason is the large-scale transition of Russian banks and payment systems to domestic SSL certificates of the Ministry of Digital Development’s National Certification Agency (NCC) and the revocation of international security certificates. Foreign browsers did not recognize the Russian certificate, marking the payment page as unsafe and blocking transactions.
To resume payments, experts recommend using the Yandex browser with built-in NCA support, installing the appropriate plug-in in the operating system, or switching to paying through the Faster Payment System (FPS), which allows you to conduct transactions directly through banking applications. Small online stores that don’t have their own mobile app are least affected by this issue.
