U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially recognized The first robotic system for use in outpatient clinics – to perform blood tests.

An autonomous robot designed to collect blood from patients’ arms is called Aletta. The system uses near-infrared light and Doppler ultrasound to locate veins. All other processes are also automated: applying the tourniquet, inserting and handling the needle, and tying a bandage to the arm after taking the blood. A trained expert starts the program and controls the operation of the machine – but one person is enough to control three Aletta robots simultaneously.
The FDA noted that patients may experience delays due to a shortage of phlebotomists, phlebotomists. The Aletta robot has been given the go-ahead for clinical trials – they showed the machine can successfully draw blood at a rate comparable to or even faster than that of experts. Despite FDA approval, there are no plans to deploy Aletta in healthcare settings.
