
Bungie’s action shooter Marathon continues to lose viewers rapidly. Just months after its release in March, the game has lost more than 95% of its peak player base on the Steam platform. If the project initially attracted nearly 88,000 concurrent users, the peak figure did not reach 3,700 in the past 24 hours.
At Bungie, the focus is almost exclusively on Destiny 2Marathon’s current performance has caused serious concerns among investors and the gaming community. Against the backdrop of similar problematic project closures in the industry, the upcoming third season and the long-awaited launch of a full-fledged PvE mode may be the last chance to revive interest in the game. Otherwise, Sony and PlayStation may decide to reduce support for shooters and shift the studio’s resources to other areas.
