The National Treasure franchise is officially back: Nearly two decades after the release of the second installment, director Jon Turtletaub has confirmed that the long-awaited third film has been greenlit by Disney.
During a special National Treasure Hunt Live podcast in Philadelphia, the director shared good news with fans: the project has finally moved from endless discussions to actual production.
According to Turtletaub, the team led by Nicolas Cage plans to return to his iconic character, and the creators already have a well-prepared script in hand, which is a good fit for the studio. The director also noted that the delay in the sequel was not only related to difficulties in Hollywood, but also the need to carefully and effectively integrate modern realities and social agendas into the plot while retaining the spirit of the classic adventure.
