In the first few days of World of Warcraft: Midnight’s new second season, serious balance issues have arisen in the blood elf Astalor’s treasure hunt. New game affixes, especially the web out of nowhere called “Toxic Pulley,” caused player dissatisfaction due to its irresistibility and fatal damage.
In tight rooms or caves, players often cannot notice a dropped net in advance. Coupled with the sudden ambush by Uratek’s minions, this resulted in the instant death of the characters as their movement speed was slowed down by 90% and over 300,000 units of damage per second gave them no chance of rescue.
In response to community complaints, Blizzard released emergency fixes overnight Thursday through Friday. The update slows down network speeds to 50% and reduces damage by 75% – about 80,000 per second. This makes the experience fairer while still retaining an element of danger.
