
Epic Games continues to make major technical changes to its launcher and store, promising users twice the speed (five times faster on average), personalized recommendations, quick categories, and built-in patch notes. However, experts are skeptical that these innovations can fundamentally change the balance of power in the PC market.
Emmanuel Rozier, Director of Market Intelligence at Analysts New Zoopointed out in interviews that Steam’s dominance on the platform is almost inevitable. He said the strategy of building an audience by giving away free games every week would only result in users “collecting” items on their accounts but rarely playing them.
Epic’s attempt to wage war on multiple fronts at once—against Steam on PC and against Apple and Google on mobile—resulted in a fragmentation of power. However, analysts praised the company’s current success as a developer, especially on the back of the successful development of Fortress Heroes, which has become a full-fledged cross-media gaming platform with various franchises.
