We know that CD Projekt RED has been actively developing the fourth installment in the Witcher series since spring 2022 – when the project was still in its infancy, there wasn’t much to talk about yet. A broadly similar situation continues to this day: work continues, albeit unacceptably slowly, and the release date keeps getting pushed back.
Today, studio head Michal Nowakowski report Information about the team’s plans to release a new The Witcher in 2028. This is of course an extremely long time in the modern overheated games industry, but to make the wait even better, CD Projekt RED will be showing off the story add-on “Ballads of the Past” in the coming days (as part of the gamescom 2026 exhibition), which is scheduled to be released next year.
As the developers have said before, the Ballads of the Past add-on will be comparable in size to the Blood and Wine add-on. So it’s quite possible to return to the world of the third The Witcher and stay there for a few nights, or even a week, depending on how good you are at it.
