Ubisoft officially revealed Heroes of Might and Magic III Remastered Edition – A radical rethink of the turn-based strategy that was all the rage back in 1999. The news was announced during Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live. The developers promised to retain the content and key mechanics of the original, but completely transfer the game to a three-dimensional space. This version is planned for release in 2027.
The visual rework has become a point of contention among fans. The remake will have a full-fledged 3D world powered by the Snowdrop engine, and instead of the usual fixed isometric camera, players will be able to freely rotate and move the camera. Ubisoft also claims to support 4K resolution, dynamic lighting, weather effects and seasonal changes.
The team working on the project Ubisoft Developers from Chengdu and Shanghai, as well as developers from Paris and Montpellier, are involved. At the same time, the creators emphasize that modern graphics shouldn’t mean abandoning classic gameplay.
As a result, turn-based combat will retain the hexagonal grid fans are familiar with, but now everything that happens on the battlefield will be fully three-dimensional. The remaster will include all nine original factions, as well as the base game and two additional content campaigns – Doomsday Blade и Shadow of Death. They will be combined into a single story structure that will be further expanded through new prologues and redesigned cinematic scenes.
Ubisoft pays special attention to user-generated content. Multiplayer will be available for up to eight people, and matchmaking mechanics and the ability to move simultaneously will also be improved. The classic “hot seat” mode played on one device will also return.
More important for the long-term life cycle of the project is the support of fan-created content. Ubisoft is committed to maintaining compatibility with the maps and campaigns created by the community over the past 25 years. To do this, the developers will modernize the editor and add a special in-game user content hub.
Ubisoft said that “Heroes of Might and Magic III Remastered” aims to preserve the legacy of the original while introducing it to a new generation of players.
Ubisoft fixes HD version bugs
One of the most important features of the remaster is the return of these two new additions. This is particularly noteworthy in the historical context Heroes of Might and Magic III HD Editionreleased in 2015.

At the time, the remaster only included the main Erathian Restoration campaign. Doomsday Blade and Shadow of Death are not included. Ubisoft’s explanation for this decision was the lack of available source code for the add-on, which caused serious dissatisfaction among fans.
Now that question no longer matters: the remaster was created almost from scratch on Snowdrop, so the developers could independently recreate both additions and include them directly in the new version.
At the same time, Ubisoft announced the release of Heroes of Might and Magic III Completed on steam. However, early adopters are experiencing technical issues that may prevent builds from starting or functioning incorrectly. Therefore, before purchasing, you should read current reviews and ensure that the problem has been resolved.
Ubisoft revives series in two ways at once
Interestingly, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remastered isn’t the only franchise project Ubisoft is currently developing.

Already in early access stage Heroes of Might and Magic: Old Timesproduced by Unfrozen Studios with participation from Hooded Horse and Ubisoft. This game offers a completely different concept: it’s a prequel, taking place approximately 500 years before the events of the classic game, while retaining the familiar fantasy world of Enroth. The project continues to receive updates, including the redesign of Necromancy and the development of competitive components.
As a result, Ubisoft effectively received two parallel development directions for the series. While the past attempts to shape a new generation of Might and Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remastered directly evokes nostalgia for the series’ most famous entry.

The big question now is whether Ubisoft can modernize Heroes III without losing players’ love for the original. Judging from the first reactions to the trailer, the transition to full 3D and free footage caused the most skepticism among series veterans. The developers had to prove that a modern visual shell wouldn’t ruin the atmosphere of the classic strategy they were trying to return to.
