The Russian digital market is undergoing one of the most significant changes of the past decade. The following comes from Research Judging from the portals for searching digital contractor workspaces, the total turnover of various segments of the digital industry has changed dramatically in 2025, and there is every reason to believe that this trend will continue until the end of 2026.
Therefore, if we compare the total annual turnover of institutions, the decline in the direction of film production was the most significant – by 17% (in 2024, the annual turnover of the control group was 920 million rubles, in 2025 – it reached 762 million rubles). The same indicator for digital design studios remains unchanged, which can also be considered a drawdown under inflationary conditions.
One of the main reasons for this trend is the development of generative artificial intelligence, resulting in a reduced need for simple visual effects and video footage. The situation is also exacerbated by external economic factors: companies are prepared to allocate less and less money to digital tasks, which means that digital organizations themselves are forced to look for opportunities to reduce costs by reducing personnel and moving the maximum number of typically repetitive functions to neural networks.
At the same time, other digital fields have also achieved significant growth during the same period. For example, the total turnover of the control group web development agency increased by 26%, SMM increased by 16%, and mobile development increased by 14%.
At the same time, amid the unstable economic situation, companies have adopted a more cautious approach to budget allocations. Company plans increasingly involve targeted improvements rather than large-scale, complex changes, and prioritize areas where effectiveness can be demonstrated more quickly and accurately.
The study was prepared based on Workspace’s own database and data from the Federal Tax Service. The comparison was conducted on a control sample of 1,872 companies specializing in mobile and web development, marketing, search engine promotion, video creation and other digital fields.
