After a complete introduction to the “Songs of the Past” expansion pack The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt During the Gamescom 2026 opening night livestream, CD Projekt Red continued to reveal details of the project directly on the show floor. One of the most discussed moments is Geralt’s meeting with a new heroine named Lila. The developers have so far avoided making direct statements, but their response to reporters’ questions hinted almost unequivocally that The Witcher will feature another opportunity for romance.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will add a third main story years after the original game’s release. After weeks of waiting, fans have finally seen the first full trailer for Song of the Past, with a demo at Gamescom revealing more about the project.
New areas, new threats and the return of Dandelion
The expansion’s main events will unfold in a previously unexplored region called Letten. Developers describe the land as a place with particularly strong rural traditions and folklore. Agriculture thrives here, residents regularly take luxury holidays, and the surrounding nature creates an almost idyllic impression of the continent.
However, fans of the series are well aware: if somewhere in the world of The Witcher seems too peaceful, there’s probably something extremely unpleasant lurking nearby.
That’s why Geralt will have to face an unprecedented threat in Leiten. According to the information provided, behind the surface prosperity of the area lies an ancient evil that has long lurked. The wizard will once again investigate what is happening, search for the source of the danger, and fight creatures he has never seen before.
Particularly interesting is how Geralt ended up in Leiten. It seems that he went there this time not just to place a monster order. The center of the story will be his old friend, the bard Buttercup, and together with him will enter the plot a new heroine, Lila, who, it turns out, is the famous poet’s cousin.
Geralt’s relationship with Lila has now become one of the main topics of discussion among fans.
Lila could become Geralt’s new lover
During the demonstration songs from the past The reporter noticed that Geralt’s interaction with Lila provides special dialogue and action options. This in itself does not prove the existence of a full-fledged romance line, however, Eurogamer reporters decided to ask representatives from CD Projekt Red directly if the new heroine would be a potential love interest in The Witcher.
The developer did not give a clear answer. Instead, reporters were asked to learn everything about the game on their own, citing a reluctance to reveal plot details beforehand. Formally speaking, this cannot be considered a direct confirmation of the novel, but such a reaction seems quite eloquent.
It would be easier for the developers to give a negative answer if there really were no romantic elements between Geralt and Lila. Instead, CDPR chose to maintain the suspense.
At the same time, it’s completely unknown just how serious the relationship between the two characters will be. Lila is likely just another short-term love interest for Geralt, rather than a full-blown replacement for Yennefer or Triss. It’s also possible that her role in history was much more complex than it seems now.
And an unexpected plot twist can’t even be ruled out: the mysterious Lila may very well have a direct connection to Layton’s mysterious awakening of evil.
CD project red I have given her a brief description. According to the developer, Lila is a smart, adventurous, and slightly rebellious girl. Obviously, her character should fit in well with the atmosphere of the new area and be markedly different from the women Geralt already knows.
Will Letten be connected to The Witcher 4?
What’s particularly curious about “Song of the Past” is its place in the series’ timeline. This supplement comes after Geralt’s main story is completed, but at the same time it’s supposed to be the last major chapter before Geralt’s adventure finally transitions to Ciri.
This has left fans wondering if the ancient threat lurking in Leiten is actually just a purely local story.
So far, CD Projekt Red has not revealed how the events of Song of the Past relate to the future of the universe. Therefore, there are two main options: either the developers create a standalone story that won’t have a major impact on subsequent games, or the add-on content contains hints and details that could lay the groundwork for the next part of the series.
This becomes especially interesting considering that The Witcher 4’s protagonist will be Ciri. Therefore, “Song of the Past” may be Geralt’s final journey before finally passing the baton to the next generation of demon hunters.
However, there is still enough time before the release, and CDPR will likely reveal details gradually. The next major message may not come until the end of the year.
The Witcher 3 will be revived in 2026
Geralt fans don’t have to wait until 2027, though. CD Projekt Red will be released in September The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Edition – Free update for original game owners.
The remaster will offer improved graphics, additional technical features, and numerous gameplay changes. Furthermore, the updated version will not only be released on a familiar platform: the developer has also confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 release.
As such, fans will have every reason to return to the continent long before Songs from the Past is released. Considering the scale of the original game and the two additions that preceded it, replaying it could easily take dozens of hours, or even hundreds if need be.
It looks like CD Projekt Red has decided to not only remind players of The Witcher 3, but to make it a core entry in the series for years to come. There will be a remaster in 2026, Song of the Past in 2027, and then attention will eventually shift to The Witcher 4. If the studio’s plans don’t change, Geralt’s story will have a truly final payoff before the series finally begins a new chapter.
