Developer Nekki announces story-driven action spine It will meet players in the summer of 2027. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, while a Nintendo Switch 2 version will be released at a later date. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The story of “SPINE” will unfold in Tensor City, a futuristic metropolis created by artificial intelligence after an environmental disaster. The city is divided into social classes, and the lives of its residents are controlled by a ranking system that determines almost everything: from jobs to access to basic resources.
The main characters are Redline, street performers and rebels. After a failed robbery by a mafia representative and the disappearance of her brother, the girl gains access to the experimental SPINE combat implant. She works with artificial intelligence to find her brother, and gradually finds herself caught in a confrontation with the forces of Tensor City.
The main feature of the project should be its cinematic combat system. The developers combined short-range gunplay with beat-’em-up action mechanics, ranging from games like Batman: Arkham and master. Redline will be able to dodge blows, parry attacks, disarm opponents, take away their weapons and use surrounding objects during combat.
Meanwhile, the camera is almost always with the heroine, turning every battle into a scene from a dynamic cyberpunk action movie. Players have full control over the red line, independently combining hand-to-hand techniques, shooting, and improvised attacks.
Opponents will include Justice Department employees, the Mafia, zealots and VR addicts. A special place is occupied by the Children of Tensor, elite warriors with spinal implants. Each of them has its own characteristics and requires individual tactics.
In addition to fighting, Negi Commitment to focus on Tensor City itself. Players will have to navigate between the posh upper-class areas and dysfunctional streets of the Old Town, gradually revealing the structure of this society and the impact of current events on the world around them.
So, so far, SPINE looks like an unusual mix of The Master, Batman: Arkham, and a cyberpunk action game. Release is still nearly a year away, so the developers have to prove that impressive visual presentation and spectacular combat can be turned into a full-fledged and deep gameplay system.
