The leaked Nvidia DLSS 5 neural rendering library is already working on GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards. RTX Remix modder Uncle Burrito has patched the nvngx_dlssnr.dll file so that it runs on the Ada Lovelace series of graphics accelerators, including the GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080.

An Nvidia DLSS 5 DLL archive was discovered this week in an early build of NBA 2K27. Modders from the RenoDX community quickly adapted the file for Control and subsequently demonstrated the same experimental implementation in more than a dozen other games.
The file leak was initially limited to support for RTX 50 series graphics cards, as part of the library contains CUDA binaries compiled for the Blackwell architecture. Modder Uncle Burrito identifies binaries that are incompatible with Ada Lovelace and replaces them with compatible versions. This allows the same neural rendering library to work on RTX 40 series graphics cards.
The patch has been proven to work on GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards. Additionally, it was successfully tested on RTX 4080. Nvidia has not officially confirmed which graphics architectures DLSS 5 will support. When announcing the technology, the company demonstrated it using two flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards. However, Nvidia later confirmed that DLSS 5 will only require an RTX card. The aforementioned custom implementation of DLSS 5 runs on the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 cards.
DLSS 5 disabled
The custom implementation of DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on RTX 40 graphics cards suffers a significant performance hit. In the Uncle Burrito test on the RTX 4090, the frame rate dropped from about 135 FPS to 82 FPS when DLSS 5 was enabled, a drop of about 39%. RTX 50 graphics cards also experienced performance degradation. In the RTX 5070 test in Cyberpunk 2077, the frame rate dropped from 138 FPS to 68 FPS in raster mode, and in the RTX 5070 Ti test in Control, the frame rate dropped by nearly 50%. The current implementation is still experimental, so these results should not be considered representative of the final version of DLSS 5.
Nvidia plans to release DLSS 5 this fall. Currently, leaked RenoDX libraries and implementations allow modders to access unfinished versions of the technology long before official release.
