Let’s remember that Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) promised to release Squadron 42 12 years ago – but development was delayed. The year before last, the game was scheduled to premiere in late 2026, but GTA VI put that plan in jeopardy.
Announced on November 19, Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated open-world crime thriller has already scared off all but one of the major publishers and developers – and CIG has officially joined the party.

“I definitely don’t want to release a spiritual successor to Wing Commander, a game we put 12 years of blood, sweat and tears into under the hype of GTA VI.”Roberts said.
According to Roberts, GTA VI will not be released on PC in November, but it will still attract the attention of all portals and bloggers. Therefore, CIG has decided to postpone the release of Squadron 42 to the second quarter of 2027 (April-June).
The ratio of “Squadron 42” and “Star Citizen” developers within CIG is 55% vs. 45%
Roberts also confirmed a leak from June: On October 9th and 10th, select Star Citizen contributors and streamers will have the opportunity to play Squadron 42. The exact release date should be announced shortly after the event.
Squadron 42 will offer seamless transitions between ground, vehicle and space gameplay, deep interactive systems, incredible immersion and a gallery starring Hollywood stars.
