Following “Steins;Gate Re:Boot” by Japanese studio MAGES. Announced her new suspense thriller Shikai. The game, which will launch this winter in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, has a distinct theme from the studio’s sci-fi science adventure series.
Shikai is inspired by MAGES’ 2024 horror story. It is titled “House with a Red Roof” and was posted on her official YouTube channel as part of the show Kaidanshi no Utage Talks Party. Those familiar with the story (which is where the game begins) find themselves “infected by the supernatural.” As a result, media content that seems mundane at first glance begins to affect not just the characters, but the players themselves, suggesting that the fourth wall may be broken.
The game concept was developed by Hiroshi Kitahara, art director of the “Science Adventure” series, and the script was written by Ryo Yasumoto, the scriptwriter of “Steins;Gate 0” and “Children of Chaos”. The game music was composed by Takeshi Abo (“Steins; Gate”, “Memories Off”), with Ryuya Matsubara and Naotaka Hayashi (“Steins; Gate”, “Steins;Gate 0”, “Children of Chaos”) serving as producers.
Seeker Eye (Shikai) is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in the winter. While the official website currently only shows the cryptic message, more details are expected to emerge as the release date gets closer.
