MSI has released the Katana 15 HX C14, a new 15.6-inch gaming laptop equipped with the flagship Intel Core i9-14900HX generation Raptor Lake-HX Refresh processor and mobile GeForce RTX 5070. An interesting feature of the new product is that it is available in DDR5 and DDR4 memory configurations.

Despite the DDR5 memory crisis, DDR4 memory support in gaming laptops released in 2026 is very rare. MSI provides support for DDR5 memory (with two SO-DIMM slots) and DDR4-3200 (with two SO-DIMM slots) for the Katana 15 HX C14. In both cases, support for up to 96 GB of memory is indicated. It is unclear if this is an error in the description or if the company intended to use a configuration with DDR4 memory modules with a capacity of 32 + 64 GB, but DDR4 memory modules with a capacity of 48 GB do not exist in nature. It should be noted that we’re not talking about four memory slots (two for DDR4, two for DDR5) in a laptop at the same time – you have to choose a model that supports the new generation of memory or supports the previous generation of memory.
The Intel Core i9-14900HX processor used in the laptop is equipped with 24 cores (8 P cores and 16 E cores). The chip officially supports DDR4 and DDR5 memory, allowing MSI to offer notebook configurations with DDR4 memory without changing the platform.
As a graphics subsystem, the Katana 15 HX C14 can offer a mobile GeForce RTX 5070 with 8 GB of GDDR7 memory and a TDP of up to 115 W. The total power of the laptop (CPU + GPU) is 170 W. A cooling system with two fans, three heat pipes, and four air ducts is responsible for removing heat from the internal components.
This laptop also comes with different displays. This can be a panel with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, a refresh rate of 165Hz, and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, or a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, a frequency of 144Hz, and 100% coverage of the sRGB color space. The laptop also offers two M.2 slots for PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drives, supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, a 60 Wh battery, and an included 240 W power supply.
The Katana 15 HX C14 weighs 2.1 kg, which is 12.5% lighter and 10.2% thinner than the previous generation Katana. According to MSI, the Katana 15 HX C14 laptop is now available globally. However, availability of specific configurations, including support for specific memory standards, depends on sales region.
