As part of the Official Xbox Podcast, Persona series lead producer Kazuhisa Wada shared the development team’s philosophy on the upcoming Persona 6 and Persona 4 Resurrection. According to the creators, the series’ global success was never the result of a deliberate adaptation to Western audiences. Although the localization and development teams clearly disagreed with this, some “controversial” content in Persona 3: Reloaded was removed or edited to meet the modern standards of the Western agenda.
Our goal has never been simply to make games for a global market. Instead, we always believe in creating projects that truly excite and inspire us. The fact that this approach has resonated with players around the world is the happiest thing about us.
At the same time, the developer noted that as popularity grew, studios began to pay more attention to high-quality localization, global quality control, and convenience for foreign fans. However, when it comes to writing, atmosphere, and mechanics, the Atlus team continues to prioritize creative freedom and fidelity to their own authorial vision.
