it seems, sony ultimately deciding the future of its PC policy. After several years of aggressively promoting PlayStation beyond its own console, the company is once again relying on the exclusivity of a large, single project. Now, this is reflected not only in the company’s internal decisions, but also directly in its advertising campaigns.

Sony recently released a new ad “PS5 Only”Several of the mainstream games are directly marked “PlayStation 5 exclusive”. appear in video Marvel’s Wolverine, Ghost of Ramsey, Sara, God of War: Laufey, Astro Bot and Grand Tour. It’s worth noting that none of these games have announced PC versions yet.

This return to rhetoric is particularly interesting in the context of Sony’s previous strategy. In recent years, the company has been releasing its biggest single-player games on Steam some time after they debuted on PlayStation. As a result, exclusivity effectively becomes a temporary exclusivity: the game first sells on PS5, then becomes available to PC owners months or years later.

Computers appeared according to this plan “Horizon: Zero Dawn”, “God of War”, “Marvel’s Spider-Man”, “Ghost of Tsushima”, “Horizon Forbidden West” and other major PlayStation projects.

Things are changing now. It was known back in the spring that Sony was rethinking its approach to porting single-player games to PC. According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, PlayStation Studio head Hermen Hulst revealed to company employees that Sony will reformulate the strategy that new story-based games will remain exclusive to PlayStation. In particular, they talked about projects such as “The Ghost of Yotsuba” and “Sara Island”.

Later, more important circumstantial evidence emerged. Looking at Sony’s 2026 annual report, wording from previous versions of the document about its intention to continue publishing its own games on multiple platforms, including PC, has disappeared. Removing this language is not in itself a direct announcement that the port will be cancelled, but it is significant in the context of the report on the new strategy.

At the same time, it’s not possible to talk about PlayStation completely moving away from PC just yet. These changes primarily affect the single-player story game. Sony’s online projects continue to use a multi-platform model, because for them, reaching the widest possible audience directly affects player numbers and server viability. That’s why games like this Hellraiser 2 and other multiplayer projects can still be released simultaneously on PS5 and PC.

Sony officials did not explain the reasons for the reversal in detail, but the logic of the strategy is quite clear. The company’s goal is to make PlayStation itself a more attractive platform and retain advantages the console doesn’t get on PC. If a potential player is sure that he will be able to buy the same game on Steam in a year or two, the need to buy a PS5 becomes less obvious.

Additionally, Sony may have concluded that not all PC ports provide the expected business results. The company has previously tried releasing at different times on consoles and PCs, but sales of some projects on PC have been lower than expected.

Now the experiment appears to be coming to an end. Furthermore, Sony decided to emphasize this change as clearly as possible: the “PS5 only” statement, which has become much less frequently used in recent years, is once again part of the console’s advertising positioning.

For PC users, this represents an unpleasant prospect. If the new policy is indeed enforced consistently, Marvel’s games such as Wolverine, Ramos, and Saran, as well as future titles in God of War and other major series, may never be officially released on Steam.

For PlayStation, this is actually a return to a classic model: major standalone games shouldn’t just be limited-time exclusives, but should become one of the main reasons to buy the console itself. After years of gradually moving closer to PC, Sony now appears to be once again drawing a clearer line between the two platforms.
