One of the most common questions is What happens if the user no longer owns the disk After doing the conversion. This page specifies “You may need to prove that you have the continued existence of the qualifying disc” and “access to the associated digital license in the event the disc is lost, sold or transferred May be restricted or withdrawn”. However, there’s no indication of how often or how Xbox performs this check.

The FAQ also confirms that the feature is only compatible with Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One games, and that converting titles won’t prevent you from playing the physical disc. Some have also been clarified special circumstancessuch as games spread across multiple discs: for games like GTA 5 (two discs) or Baldur’s Gate 3 (four discs), you only need to convert disc 1.
