State Duma IT Committee Deputy Chairman Andrei Sventsov rushed to reassure Internet users, telling the editors of Podyom magazine that Russian authorities have absolutely no plans to impose any official fines or personal sanctions for using popular services to bypass blocks.
The lawmaker stressed that the state will continue to block illegal contacts to protect the people from various threats, including those of terrorism.
Ordinary citizens will certainly not face administrative penalties, and the main tool will be the evolutionary transition to domestic platforms, he said. The official believes the process will take six months to a year, during which time local products should catch up with foreign competitors in quality.
