The Sonos Beam Ultra is a completely redesigned compact 7.1.2 soundbar (up from its predecessor’s 5.0 configuration) that includes two upward-firing speakers and supports Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The center midrange driver uses a new waveguide, a different acoustic design and a digital audio processor to deliver four levels of artificial intelligence-driven speech intelligibility enhancement.

The Beam Ultra still has a compact body, but the body of the soundbar is ten centimeters longer than its predecessor, the Beam Gen 2, due to the addition of speakers. Nine built-in digital Class-D amplifiers are specifically tuned to the soundbar’s acoustic architecture and are responsible for delivering high-quality sound.
Five multi-directional tweeters accurately reproduce highs and mids and provide Dolby Atmos surround sound. Four low-profile woofers deliver powerful bass. You can use the Sonos app to control the soundbar and adjust bass, treble, and volume.
The far-field microphone array uses beamforming and multi-channel echo cancellation for voice control, Trueplay settings, and connection to Sonos Play or Move 2 rear speakers. Trueplay technology measures room acoustics and automatically adjusts the sound to fit the room.
To improve speech clarity, the manufacturer uses artificial intelligence with four levels of adjustment. Night sound mode limits dynamic range by reducing the intensity of loud sounds and boosting quiet sounds.
The soundbar supports the following spatial audio formats: Stereo PCM, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Atmos via Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos via Dolby TrueHDmulti-channel PCM, Dolby multi-channel PCM, DTS digital surround sound.
The Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar is available in matte black or white and will be available on September 29 for $699.
