On September 1, 2026, Russia began the large-scale implementation of the digital ruble: the largest credit organizations and retail chains opened their infrastructure to the use of the new form of the national currency.
Citizens can now open a special digital account through a banking mobile application connected to the platform, with one wallet for personal use and two wallets for individual entrepreneurs (individuals and businesses). You can top up up to 300,000 rubles per month from your regular bank account, with unlimited subsequent spending and transfers. All digital ruble transactions are completely free for the public, and for businesses there is a grace period until the end of the year without charging commissions.
The launch of digital national currency aims to expand citizens’ payment capabilities and make payments faster, more convenient and safer. However, this currency cannot be invested, so its real benefit to ordinary citizens is questionable.
