While players are building dynasties, weaving conspiracies, and sending loved ones into battle, the Crusader Kings 3 team is doing something less bloody—reminiscent of the Silk Silver expansion pack. After the summer break, the developers revealed what happened behind the scenes.
Now the DLC is in an iterative phase – all previously created mechanics are being tried to make them work with each other instead of collapsing on the first collision. Before that, the team went through concept, pre-production and production, with one to two months of intensive bug fixing before release. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, so the developers are carefully hiding the roadmap beyond October from prying eyes.

The work of Silk and Silver is divided into four groups, each responsible for its own area: Merchant, Republic, Economy, and Trade. Of course, it turns out that the boundaries between them are far from iron-clad, so developers often have to agree on a solution. The work was carried out in three-week sprints: two weeks were devoted to creating and finalizing the mechanics, and the third week was dedicated to eliminating bugs. Judging from the internal roadmap shown, there’s still a lot of work to be done, but now the developers are no longer laying the foundations, but instead trying to turn the entire massive build set into a solid addition.
