Capcom has revealed new details about Ascendance, a major expansion pack for third-person action game Monster Hunter Wilds. The expansion will continue the story after the main game ends, adding new locations, monsters, and combat abilities. It is scheduled to release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027.
The plot of this add-on will take place several years after the events of Monster Hunter: Wildlands. The appearance of the ancient dragon Laoshanlong in the forbidden area will open a new chapter. The expeditionary force was unprepared for his return, and would then begin to fortify their positions and build Fort Madoy in preparation for the next conflict.
Over the past few years, the world around us will change. The fog that has long obscured the sky in Vivilia will lift, revealing a new area called Skynest. The area is towering and features open natural spaces, ancient ruins and previously unknown local animal species.
Nata will appear in history again. Over the years, the former young Guardian would mature into a full-fledged hunter and join the expedition with his partner, Woodwood Bangard. Hunters must explore the Skynest with them and learn about the unusual changes in the ecosystem.
The appearance of Lao Shanlong has caused serious commotion in the forbidden area. The guardian’s habitat is expanding, new ancient dragons are appearing, and inexplicable changes are taking place in various regions. The reasons for these phenomena have yet to be determined as the new plot progresses.
The expansion will feature at least two new main enemies. Arakta is a bird-like wyvern capable of flying long distances at high speeds using powerful air currents. The leader of the wolf pack can send out special signals to coordinate the actions of other individuals. The second newcomer will be Gurung Gangdoraya. He lives in the darkest storm clouds of Skynest and can control storms.
Another notable innovation is the support amplifier. The new equipment works in conjunction with the hunter’s sling to temporarily enhance his combat abilities. The system is designed for all 14 weapons, with enhancements taking into account the characteristics of each weapon. First, the player will be able to use special skills to create gaps in the enemy’s defense, after which he will gain enhanced combat capabilities for a short period of time.
To run Ascendance, you need the main version of Monster Hunter Wilds. At the start of the expansion, players must reach Hunter level 40 and complete the “Awakening from Sleep” mission, after which they will gain Master level.
