Ahead of the release of its major expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Rise, Capcom is tweaking the combat system. The developers have started a new series of detailed videos designed to get you more interested in the modification mechanics for the 14 weapon types in the Master class. The first gameplay trailer focuses on the so-called “Boost Bracer” and the “Boosted Actions” associated with it. The creators sent the iconic greatsword into the game as the first test subject: thanks to new mechanics, the usually slow weapon loses some of its solidity and allows you to unleash massive melee attacks in succession directly through rocket-powered movement.
The functionality of the new equipment is based on an aggressive gaming style. By constantly attacking monsters, you can charge energy into the Boost Bracers. Once the module is full, you can activate the Boost state through the “Boost Driver” attack.
During this phase, each weapon unlocks new attack combinations, enhanced special attacks, and improved dodge options. Capcom expects this feature to provide additional tactical depth for effectively controlling the more aggressive creatures in the upcoming Master class.
With the Greatsword, this system is reflected in significantly more dynamic movements. “Booster” catapults you directly forward when performing an attack, allowing you to quickly close the distance with fleeing or retreating monsters. Additionally, charged strikes can grant explosive extra hits while boosted, and defense counters can be linked directly together instead of having to take a break after each strike. The Greatsword continues to reward you with precise timing, but allows for more flexible adjustments during sustained attacks.
The scenario shown is just the beginning of the marketing offensive. Over the next few days, Capcom will gradually introduce “enhanced actions” for all 13 other weapon types – including hammers, swords, spears, and ranged weapons. Industry insiders expect the release of the daily trailer to lead to a larger announcement at the upcoming Capcom Spotlight on September 16, 2026. The main expansion pack “Monster Hunter Wilds: Rise” is planned to be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2027.
