Developed by Australian indie studio Powerhoof (Crawl), the old-school point-and-click adventure thriller Castaway is the next in a series of stunning video game adaptations.

The publication’s sources spoke about studio Sony Pictures and production Center Story Kitchen’s plans to make Castaway into a feature film starring live actors deadline.
According to Deadline, the film adaptation of “Castaway” is making waves in the film industry – top writers and directors have begun contacting Sony Pictures and Story Kitchen with pitches for their projects.
As Deadline points out, while video game adaptations are now in high demand among Hollywood studios, it’s rare in the industry to see independent developers paying this much attention to games.

In the story, homeless man Mick Carter witnesses a brutal murder. Soldiers in futuristic armor chase the traveler, throwing him into a reservoir and drowning. However, the story doesn’t end there.
Mick dies, he wakes up moments before he dies. Accused of witnessing a murder and tortured by his own past, the hero becomes entangled in a crazy web of intrigue and conspiracy.
Castaway will be released on PC on July 17, 2025 (steam, GOG), and will be released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on June 22, 2026. On the Valve digital store, the game received “extremely positive” user reviews (97% rating).
