Fallout 76 has released pets on its test servers, but this time they’re back as more than just battle companions. The developers added upgrades and passive abilities, turning the four-legged companion into a full-fledged part of the adventure.
Pets now gain experience at the same time as the player when summoned, and can reach level 200. Leveling up increases your companion’s health and damage, increases your character’s carrying weight, and enhances his passive abilities. At the same time, progress is related to the type of animal: giving a pep talk to one dog is enough to give all other dogs in the character the same level.
Each pet has two passive skills. Dogs can drop diluted injections and additional legendary items, cats can drop improved fishing bait and fish nuggets, pigs can drop toxic slime and highly radioactive liquids, and deathclaws can drop black titanium and additional legendary items. Abilities are unlocked at levels 5 and 20, then increased at levels 40, 60, 85, and 120.
At the same time, pets are no longer considered an obstacle to VATS and can now be designated as attack targets through the Ping system. Fallout 76 owners can test it on Steam via a public test server, but the developer warns that not all changes will necessarily make it into the final update.
