Smart home systems are becoming more and more functional, but at the same time they rely more and more on cloud services. The idea of an autonomous smart home that responds independently is tempting, but voice commands, camera feeds and other data are typically processed in the cloud. Ugreen reportedly proposes moving most of its work directly to users’ homes Android Authority.
To achieve this goal, the company launched three smart hubs: Ugreen HomeAgent HA100, HomeAgent HA100 Pro and MasterAgent MA100. They can control Matter-enabled smart home devices, perform artificial intelligence tasks locally, and act as network-attached storage at the same time. Each hub is equipped with two SATA drive bays and a separate M.2 NVMe slot, which can also be used to store surveillance camera recordings. Support for the popular open platform Home Assistant is also provided.
Local artificial intelligence allows the system to process voice commands and analyze images from cameras without sending the corresponding data to a remote server. At the same time, Ugreen insists on a local-first approach rather than rejecting the cloud entirely: individual functions will be able to use remote computing resources if necessary.
The main differences between these models are computing and networking capabilities, as well as price. The basic version of HomeAgent HA100 is equipped with 16 GB RAM and provides AI performance of up to 26 TOPS. HomeAgent HA100 Pro is equipped with 32 GB of memory, and the combined performance of its CPU, graphics processor and neural processor reaches 205 TOPS. The HomeAgent HA100 is priced at $900, and the Pro version is priced at $3,000. This price does not include storage space.
The top product in this series is the MasterAgent MA100 based on the Nvidia Jetson Thor T5000 computing platform. It comes with 128 GB of memory and more powerful network capabilities, including 100GbE and PoE++. In fact, this is no longer just a smart home controller, but a local artificial intelligence server that can manage home automation, process data and store data at the same time without constantly relying on cloud services.
