Epic Games has rolled out a major update that brings voice chat and party systems across the ecosystem to Fortress Heroes, the launcher, and the company’s mobile apps. This innovation is important for users because it blurs the lines between platform and store, allowing them to communicate and coordinate games without being tied to a specific device.
The new feature provides players with many useful options. Users can voice chat between PCs, consoles and smartphones, transfer current calls to another device when launching a game, and minimize the launcher to chat while playing third-party projects from the Epic Games Store. By accepting a group invitation, friends will automatically be sent to the “Fortress Heroes” general lobby. In addition, the system also supports functions such as violation complaints, blocking, and sending information data.
In the future, the company intends to expand the capabilities of the ecosystem: this year, social avatars will move beyond Fortnite, next year, with the transition to Unreal Engine 6, these features will appear in Rocket League, and by 2027, these tools will be available to all third-party developers.
