scale world For years it has existed only in the memories of players, but its creator Hideki Kamiya has not given up on the idea of one day returning the canceled project. Furthermore, the developer stated that he is ready to personally offer an Xbox to revive the game if Microsoft shows interest.

Scalebound is unveiled at E3 2014 as a new massive game platinum gamescreated with support and publishing from Xbox. The project is envisioned as a dynamic action RPG for Xbox One, set in the fantasy world of Draconis. Players must control Drew, a hero associated with the dragon Tuban, who should become not only a plot character but an official participant in the battle.

The game generated a lot of interest for its unusual concept, but it never came to fruition. January 2017 Microsoft and PlatinumGames have officially announced the cancellation of Scalebound. Although the original developer was a Japanese studio, the intellectual property rights still belong to Microsoft.

Over the years, Kamiya has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the failed project. Now he may have a chance to discuss the idea with new Xbox management.

In an interview with VGC, the developer said that he has not yet discussed reviving Scalebound with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, but he would be willing to do so if Microsoft were interested in such a prospect. At the same time, the situation of the original team changed significantly: after the project was canceled, many developers went to different studios.

Kamiya himself is now chairman four leaf clover – the studio he founded after leaving PlatinumGames. However, it is no longer possible to return to the original team with full force. Some former Scalebound developers worked with Kamiya, while others continued their careers at Capcom.

According to developers, this isn’t necessarily an insurmountable problem. Kamiya believes that if people really have a strong desire to put a plan into practice, they will find a way. As an example, he cited the return of “Okami,” another series he’s familiar with.

continue Eye It was the desire of developers and fans to see this universe again that made it possible years after the original was released. Kamiya hopes that one day, something similar will happen around Scalebound.

However, there is currently no sign that Microsoft is considering bringing the game back into production. Kamiya has yet to report any talks with Xbox, and the company itself hasn’t made any announcements about Scalebound. Therefore, we are now only discussing the developer’s aspirations and potential opportunities, rather than a full-scale revitalization of the project.

The exclusivity situation for future games could also be interesting. After the change of Xbox management in 2026, Microsoft reconsidered its strategy of releasing projects on different platforms. Some future games include Gears of War: E-Day and the Clockwork Revolutionfor Xbox and PC, while some Xbox projects continue to release on PlayStation 5. Therefore, it is impossible to determine in advance where a hypothetical new Scalebound might appear.

Meanwhile, Kamiya has another big plan in mind. “Clovers” is developing a sequel to “Okami”, but a specific release date has not yet been announced. So now the developer is busy bringing back a hit game, but doesn’t hide its desire to one day give Scalebound a second chance.

For now, fans can only hope that Kamiya can actually communicate her thoughts to Xbox management. Given that the rights to Scalebound are still held by Microsoft, the final decision will still rest with the company anyway.
