Publisher PLAYISM and independent developer KOTAKE CREATE announced that they have achieved another impressive commercial milestone – the total global sales of “Exit 8”, a psychological thriller about the search for anomalies, has officially exceeded 3 million copies. The project, which began in November 2023 as a small-scale experiment on PC, has spawned an independent direction in liminal walking simulators and cemented itself as one of the most striking Japanese indie phenomena in recent years.
The game crossed the 2 million mark in August 2025 and has reached another 1 million mark thanks to its presence on almost all current devices (PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch 2). The simple rules of “If you see an anomaly in the endless passages of the Tokyo subway – turn around, if you don’t see it – keep going” have made the game a hit among streaming media, Let’s Play and social networks.
