As part of the recently released Total War: Warhammer 40,000 strategy, it is known that another force has appeared on the star map – the Traitor Guard, made up of former defenders of the Empire who have defected to the side of Chaos.
Although only four main factions were announced at launch (Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, and Imperial Guard), attentive players noticed the Traitor symbolism in the demo at Gamescom. In response to press questions, Dave Petrie, the project’s combat product manager, hinted that Traitors will actively organize rebellions and harass players throughout the campaign, but did not elaborate on whether their combat mechanics would be significantly different from loyal Imperial forces.
Given that Creative Assembly plans to develop the game post-launch and create “iconic strategy from the Warhammer 40K universe,” it seems only a matter of time before full-fledged Chaos armies emerge and the list of playable factions expands.
