He reportedly made a corresponding statement at a press conference in Seoul Reuters. “One of the areas where we have made the most progress and are most recognized by Samsung Electronics is in our joint production and development of the next generation chips we create,” – Kim admitted. As OpenAI representatives highlighted, Samsung is also one of the largest users of ChatGPT worldwide. Samsung employees use the company’s artificial intelligence model for research and development, marketing and sales. Samsung noted that it cannot discuss information related to its customers.
In June, OpenAI launched its own AI chip, Jalapeno, developed by Broadcom experts and artificial intelligence itself. Taiwanese company TSMC is supposed to produce these chips for OpenAI’s needs. Since last year, Samsung and OpenAI have had a written agreement to supply storage chips for Stargate’s large-scale project to build data centers. OpenAI Korea has made it a priority to work with local memory suppliers as memory demand will continue to grow as proprietary computing power expands.
Meanwhile, Samsung engineers can use not only OpenAI artificial intelligence models but also competing solutions from Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude when developing semiconductor components. In the early stages of the spread of ChatGPT, after an incident involving secret information being loaded into the chatbot, Samsung engineers internally prohibited the use of external AI models to meet appropriate needs without special adjustments from an information security perspective. According to OpenAI data, as of the end of August, the number of ChatGPT Enterprise users in South Korea increased 28 times compared with the same period last year. As of the end of last year, the number of paid users of ChatGPT in South Korea ranked second after the United States.
