U.S. PC shipments will start growing again in the second quarter of 2026, but higher prices due to parts shortages may suppress the market in the coming months.
The U.S. PC market is making a comeback Temporary growth in the second quarter of 2026But behind the positive signal lies a more complex situation. In fact, demand was first supported by advance purchases from resellers and commercial partners concerned about growth related to memory and storage availability.
According to the latest estimates from Omdia, PC (excluding tablets) shipments reached 18 million units between April and June, including 800,000 units. Growth of 1% compared to the same period in 2025. The result interrupted the first quarter’s 7% decline, but represented only a brief blip.
Average price breaks $1,000 for first time
The most important data involves average sales price, which exceeds First time USD 1000 (approx. 850 EUR)an annual increase of 12%. Higher prices helped market revenue grow 13.1%, although shipments grew at a much smaller rate.
Supply difficulties for DRAM and NAND are forcing manufacturers to favor more expensive systems with higher profit margins. This trend especially affects the cheapest computers: Models for under $699 (approximately 595 euros) fell 6.5%, while PCs above $1,500 (approximately 1,275 euros) grew 36.8%.

Another reason for the increase in average prices is PC with artificial intelligence-specific functions. These systems accounted for 48.3% of U.S. shipments this quarter and are expected to exceed 50% for the first time in the third quarter of 2026.
However, Omdia believes that some of the growth recorded from April to June is ahead of schedule compared with procurement expectations for 2027. Therefore, U.S. PC shipments are expected to decline by 10.7% for the whole of 2026, while the decline in the second half of the year may reach 18.4%. This pressure is expected to continue into 2027, with a contraction of 4.9% expected.
Apple grows while Dell and HP shrink shipments
Among the major manufacturers, Apple achieves best resultsshipments grew 32.1%. The full-quarter launch of MacBook Neo will increase the company’s share of the U.S. consumer market to 29.4%, while shipments in the enterprise market will increase by 50.6%.
On the other hand, Dell’s shipments fell by 8.8%, the largest decline among major manufacturers. HP fell 3.7% and Lenovo gained 2%. However, for Dell and HP, lower sales did not stop revenue growth, helped by higher average prices.
Therefore, the forecast remains unfavorable. Omdia estimate The overall value of the U.S. PC market may decline by 6% in 2027Although further increases are expected in the first months of this year. In short, current growth appears to depend more on securing demand for the product ahead of new growth than on a true recovery in demand, and the risk of buying ahead of time could lead to a market with lower growth margins in future quarters.
